Energycity Andermatt

The municipality of Andermatt was awarded the coveted label Energy city of Europe in 2009 for a sustainable energy future The award is bound by strict quality criteria and shows how Andermatt relies on renewable energies and energy efficiency It is a great achievement of the municipality Andermatt and is u.a. lent only if more energy is generated annually from renewable sources than is consumed.

The Ursern Electricity Plants (EMU) supply Andermatt directly with renewable energy from wind and hydropower. The current consumption of Andermatt is about 28 million kWh per year. The existing 4 hydropower plants and 4 wind turbines generate approximately 31.5 million kWh of renewable energy per year. The green electricity from wind turbines is certified by the label 'Naturemade star'. This is green electricity, the ecological added value of which has been proven by the fulfillment of strict criteria. In order to continue to supply the increasing energy supply through the Andermatt tourist resort with renewable energy, the EMU planned for the future and has completed another hydroelectric power plant in Realp in 2018 and can now add another 10 million kWh per year to to produce.
